Review of the Samsung UE40B7000

By Karen Puckett

Out of the Carton - Initial Views: Wow - most people are flabbergasted by just how thin the UE40B7000 is - in fact less than an inch and a half in depth. The black sheer finish to the surround of the television looks great, as does the slim transparent connection between the monitor and the base. An additional plus point is that Samsung has incorporated all of the key parts within the set - certain manufacturers have required viewers to find a site for a separate box for such items as the Freeview tuner.

Audio Quality: This leads to a weak spot widespread in recent TVs - the sound quality is only average. The UE40B7000 is too slender to permit a reasonable audio system. Look to linking it to a separate sound system to get reasonable sound to hope to match up the picture quality.

UE40B7000 Picture Quality: The exclusive promotion point of the UE40B7000 is the fact that it uses LED technology to replace the usual fluorescent tube backlighting procedure found in other TVs. While the backlighting technology is uncommon, the UE40B7000 remains a LCD TV. LED backlighting is said to have the following benefits:

* The LED backlit UE40B7000 has an even output of illumination across its display. Fluorescent lit Televisions are more poorly lit in the centre of the screen.

* As the LEDs are entirely controllable and can simply be fully turned off, they can turn out perfect blacks.

* Response times (when viewing a fast shifting image) are faster.

* The colour display is greater.

UE40B7000Connectivity: The UE40B7000 has four HDMI ports, two USB, and a LAN (Local Area Network) one - future proof at present. With a separate, easily purchased wireless USB stick, the UE40B7000 can get into any home wireless network and as well, any USB memory device can be used to permit it to play most multimedia file formats.

The Samsung UE40B7000 Remote: There are in point of fact two remotes. The main one curves over at one end (planned to lay on an armchair arm?). A tad weird to grasp at the outset, but you get used to it. Just on / off, volume and channel controls are on the second remote - by and large OK for daily use, nevertheless.

Environment: Using less than-0 watts in daily operation, the UE40B7000 will cost a smaller amount to own than other similar TVs

UE40B7000 Review - Summing up: Although the sound performance of the UE40B7000 is not up to scratch, it outperforms its competitors, with dazzling colours and black blacks. The finest image quality in its class.
