Stuff To Do With Your Mobile Phone

By Eric Townsend

Telecommunications have come quite a long way since the days of the phone booth and a pocketful of dimes and quarters. Nowadays, there is a global proliferation of handheld, pocket-sized cell phones. What's more, you can use it for myriad things, not just placing a call. With this in mind, let's explore a few a different things you can do with your mobile phone.

What you can do will depend upon what kind of unit you have. Smartphones as well as mini PC devices offer much more than a basic cell. And of course, because they so much more, they tend to cost more to purchase as does the service to use them.

One of the most popular applications used today is checking e-mails right from the cell. This is particularly useful if you are traveling or are otherwise away from your desktop or laptop computer. Some simple cells offer this service assuming you are using a popular remote email service.

Then of course there are text messages. Each year, tens of millions of these messages are sent all across the world. Almost every cellular device offers this function. Some service plans may charge extra for it, sometimes on a per text basis.

Another popular app for your mobile is to turn it into a GPS device. Advancements in both software and hardware development has made this possible. People planning their business trips in unfamiliar cities who rent a car need not pack their GPS, but rather fire up the phone and take advantage of the Global Positioning System network.

These days, there are literally thousands of apps for mobiles. Some are practical and some are strictly for entertainment. Kids and adults alike often find themselves playing games on their phones. Sports fans can get score updates and watch video highlights from the games. And, oh yes, you can actually still use it to place a call.
