What Is The Most Important EHR Meaningful Use?

By Jeanette W. Abbey

EHR meaningful use is apparent almost right away when you first see this program in action. The medical community is utilizing many new tools, such as EHR (Electronic Health Records) to keep their practices running smoothly and improve patient care. At a current appointment with a specialist, I saw this type of software for the first time. Their program seemed to help them navigate through the appointment quickly, which was just fine with me. I always have a hectic schedule, so when something saves me time I appreciate it.

The doctor and nurses could see my medical file on their EHR software, which saved a lot of hassle. Not having them ask me for information many times was a pleasant surprise. Whatever the nurse put in the computer stayed in the system and the doctor could then review it. It saved time and also prevented me from becoming irritated by having to tell them the information over and over. The staff seemed to have no problem using the software. Both the nurse and the nurse seemed to breeze through the records with no trouble.

From what I understand, the most EHR meaningful use is that there isn't only one! It's amazing that this system can connect the patient records with the billing system and cut down on the time it takes to prepare and generate bills. The doctor said that it's a Web-based medical EHR system that lets doctors from all over look at the same records. Heck, even other physicians from around the country can view them if they're connected to the same system!

I enjoy learning about new things and so this was the case in learning about EHR, too. The fact that medical professionals can communicate with each other and patients with ease because of the use of Web-based medical EHR programs means that patient care can be improved dramatically. A mistake with medications being reduced is another even more meaningful use of EHR since medication records are updated frequently.

I believe that Web-based medical EHR software most likely pays for the original cost because it's easy to use and saves the doctors time, which allows them see more patients. This is certainly true because it helps make the billing process more efficient and reduces errors when dealing with insurance companies. If I were a doctor, I would definitely check into purchasing EHR software for my practice.
