GPS Loggers! Always Know Where Your Kids Are While Hiking With A GPS Tracking Device.

By Eskka Carnes

Devices that log into position on a regular basis are called GPS data loggers, or can be called GPS loggers. They store this data into their memory internally, and this data can be put onto computer from this device as well. Often those involved in sports use these devices to keep track of the miles that they cover over time. Usually these GPS loggers are quite small and you can wear them on an armband or can put them in a pocket. Many hardware and gadget stores have these GPS data loggers, and you can even find them on the web.

What is GPS? GPS or Global Position System is a type of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which was developed by the US Department of Defense. It can be used by anyone and is mostly used by civilians for navigation and tracking.

GPS devices can help to find or track a position that is exact. It uses radiowave signals to do this, which are emitted by satellites that are orbiting the earth. Not only can location be determined with GPS devices but time and velocity can also be found with these devices as well.

Uses for GPS Loggers GPS loggers can be used for a variety of different things. Many people use them for traveling and some use them for sports. Of course there are other uses too. You'll find that these GPS data loggers are often used for asset tracking, sports, security, and even geotagging.

Sports There are several sports related applications for GPS loggers. The devices are, however, mainly used for outdoor sports such as jogging, hiking, biking, etc. You can take the small gadget with you and later on download the data to your computer to determine where you've been or how fast you were going. This system is also used in the sport of gliding where competitors are made to fly close circuit routes. When they land, the data stored in the GPS loggers will help determine if they followed the path and who did it the fastest.

In Geotagging GPS loggers can be used for geotagging as well, cross-referencing data with data that is used with pictures that are taken by a digital camera. If you take your GPS logger along with you when you are snapping photos, you can figure out the exact location of the photograph that was taken, but the time and date of the picture that is recorded by the camera must be correct.

Uses in Security and Asset Tracking Asset tracking often depends on these GPS loggers as well. Pet owners often put them on pets so they know where their pets are at all times. Even parents sometimes use these devices on their kids. They can be put on the child or the car of a child so it is always known where they are. In some private investigations they are used, and any security activity that requires tracking an asset will use them as well.

Cost GPS data loggers can be purchased in most hardware and gadget stores. You can also place an order for a logger online. These devices cost between $25 and $200. Some devices cost more than others depending on factors such as memory space and on how the data is stored and downloaded.
